Frequently asked questions

Is PRP safe?
Yes. PRP uses your own blood, minimising allergic reactions or rejection. It’s processed in a sterile environment and used immediately.
Where is Novogenics based?
We are based in Cheadle, UK - serving women across South Manchester and Cheshire.
Is PRP treatment painful?
Most patients describe the sensation as mild discomfort or a light scratching feeling during injections. We use a gentle technique with a special injection delivery gun that can minimise pain. A numbing cream can also be applied beforehand.
What are autologous exosomes, and how are they different from PRP?
Autologous exosomes are regenerative messengers extracted from your own blood. While PRP contains platelets that release growth factors, exosomes go deeper - carrying mRNA and signalling molecules that promote longer-lasting regeneration. We extract these using a double-spin process with advanced technology.
Is microneedling painful?
Microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries using fine needles. It can feel like tingling or prickling, but it’s generally well tolerated. Numbing cream is available to minimise discomfort.
How long does each treatment session take?
Most appointments last between 30-90 minutes, including consultation, preparation, and treatment. If combining therapies, allow slightly longer.
How many sessions will I need?
An initial course of 3 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart is typical. Some may need 4–6 sessions for optimal results. Maintenance treatments every 6–12 months are advised for exosomes and 3-4 monthly for PRP.
Is this better than over-the-counter products or minoxidil?
PRP and exosome therapies work at the follicle level and can outperform topicals. We may combine microneedling to boost minoxidil absorption if appropriate.
Is this safe for hijab-wearing women?
Yes. Novogenics is a private, female-led clinic offering full privacy and cultural sensitivity. No male staff are present during treatments.
Is PRP or exosome therapy a cure for hair loss?
These are not permanent cures, but they are clinically supported to improve density and regrowth. Maintenance sessions help manage the condition effectively.
Are autologous exosomes legal in the UK?
Yes. Our exosomes are prepared from your own blood in a sterile setting. We do not use donor or imported products. Our process complies with MHRA standards.
Why do you offer trichoscopy?
To provide objective before-and-after images and ensure the scalp is suitable for treatment. If abnormalities are detected, we refer you to your GP instead of proceeding.
What is trichoscopy?
Trichoscopy is a non-invasive method using a video trichoscope to zoom in and examine the scalp and hair follicles. Images can be saved in your file.
Am I going to be diagnosed or treated?
No. This clinic offers aesthetic treatments, not medical diagnoses or disease treatments. If necessary, we will signpost you to your GP.
Can you guarantee that the treatment will work?
Response varies by individual. Some benefit greatly, others less so. Before-and-after images at 3 months help assess progress. We cannot guarantee results.
Can I have treatment if I have other medical problems?
Suitability depends on your individual health. This is discussed in your consultation. General contraindications include active infections, pregnancy, and uncontrolled diabetes.
I heard exosome therapy comes from plants or fish?
Ours doesn’t. Novogenics uses autologous (your own) blood to derive exosomes. No plant or animal products are involved.
I’m worried about allergic reactions.
Since we use your own blood, the risk is very low. Rare reactions to items like gloves or plasters may still occur.
What are the risks?
Risks and side effects are discussed during consultation. Common risks include pain, bleeding, infection, allergic reactions, and lack of response.
Will I be seen by a non-medical practitioner?
No. All consultations and treatments are carried out by Dr Aminah Amer, a qualified GP and sports and exercise medicine doctor with a special interest in female hair loss.
